...randomness surrounding Guided by Voices, Robert Pollard, and other great indie rock bands; a quasi objective look at "my" sporting teams; the random horror film; plus other crap as we see fit...all with a Pittsburgh based feel.

"The Other Bob"

Thanks to gbvh (who really should be an official contributor) for not only this snippet, but the post title. Speaking of "Date w/ IKEA", I briefly heard from Rich T recently through fb, who had said this Pavement tune always reminded him of GBV. Thought that was kinda cool...

ps: word on the streets of Sewickley is that EC will have a fresh new face coming real soon. We've seen a preview, and we're getting kinda pumpt!

I hope you missed us, we're back!!!

So much for that New Year's resolution. Two months strong, then a complete collapse. Just following in the footsteps of our favorite team.

The Alexei Ponikarovsky Era Begins

Or the Ukrainian version : Олексій Понікаровський

Pronounced:
PAH-nih-kuh-ROV-skee

Learn it. Know it. Live it.

OK...so maybe he's not filling Eric Godard's role any time soon. Hopefully, more of this stuff...

Satin Gum play Game of Pricks

Hadn't heard of Satin Gum until this point, but covering GBV makes this guy an instant fan. They're from the Burgh, too. From the Brillo Box earlier this week...

thanks to gbvh, once again, who probably should've become an official EC contributor a long time ago :)

All things Pavement

Appears to be a SETLIST!!! Getting so jackt for this!! Toronto in June and NYC in September seem like an eternity.

This is old news for one loyal reader, seeing he fwded it all to me. But seeing I just rec'd my Quarantine the Past (best of) Pavement record, I was in the mood....

Per Spiral Stairs' blog (aptly titled "spinalspirally"), sounds as though the whole band got together for the first time in 10 years to start rehearsing. Read Spiral's account HERE.

More on the first show HERE.

March article on Pavement in GQ calling them:

"Greatest. Indie-est. Band. Ever."

New Zealand blogger Piero on that first show in Auckland, New Zealand. GO HERE for pics.

Video from SPIN HERE.

Boo Sidney Crosby???

From what I hear, it's just a couple of moronic yinzers talking about this, so no more cause for shock. Remain calm, all is well.

An unidentified source has told us that any actual "Pens fans" in attendance at tonight's first game back who actually "boo" Sid, will promptly be ejected from the arena. Their fan card will be rescinded. They will then experience a cross check to the lips, followed by a face wash. Finally, they will feel shame. I also have a personal message...

Don't Stop Now Olympics

As I told all my close pals 3 weeks ago, these Olympics are Everything.

A few random things we witnessed and learned over the past few weeks, in no particular:
  • Moguls look painful.
  • MSNBC and CNBC are actual channels I get.
  • If there's an HD variety of MSNBC and CNBC, I don't have it.
  • Chubby guys are most excellent bobsledders.
  • Athletes who compete in Skeleton are slightly more insane than those who compete in Luge.
  • This new sport curling is tremendously tremendous.
  • That blond skier chic on the USA Team is hot.
  • Closing ceremonies: Ogilthorpe f*$ked the last girl on the pinwheel of the lce Stravaganza. It's true. I heard it from a couple guys.
  • Military Patrol = Biathlon.
  • Ice Dancing: would be better if they cut the suits a little higher in the thigh, so you can see more ass.
  • Apolo Ohno seems like a swell dude.
  • Vancouver is a pretty little city.
  • Hockey games and Pierre McGuire can be mutually exclusive.
  • Russian ice dancer dudes, while extremely talented with the twirly whirly move, are sore losers.
  • The "twirly whirly" is an official name of an ice dancing move. Or so I'm told.
  • The Sid haters were left scrambling for new material this morning.
  • Ovechkin is still sitting at the blue line, watching his team get scored on.
  • Ken Hitchcock, in between burgers, was seen hugging Sidney Crosby post Gold-winning goal. You remember Hitchcock. He's the lame turd ex-Flyer coach who started the "Sid Dives" campaign a few years back. He's also jobless right now.

(thanks to our pal from Rando Mango for that above clip)
