Apparently the Browns are playing for high draft picks in 2010 as they trade away one of the better TEs in the league, and possibly their best player.
However, anything that allows EC to post this video can always be considered a good thing.
Spoken like a true THE U'er...
Also, it looks like Nate Washington might end up in Detroit. If I'm Nate (which, again, I'm not), I'm not sure I'd want to sign on the line for a team that isn't capable of securing the long-term services of a capable play-caller like Dan Orlovsky.

Two HUGE points for the pens last night...
...randomness surrounding Guided by Voices, Robert Pollard, and other great indie rock bands; a quasi objective look at "my" sporting teams; the random horror film; plus other crap as we see fit...all with a Pittsburgh based feel.

Drop pass on breakaway gets player waived
In a move that baffled most viewers and Pens fans, Chris Minard came in 1-on-1 against the Islander goaltender Wednesday night. Instead of making a move, a deke, or taking a shot...Minard decided a drop pass would be the best option. The defender one stride behind him broke up the play by simply being in the way. A day later, Minard was waived.
I guess that one play could sum up our season. And my partner here at EC had a very insightful revelation relating to this passing phenomena going around the Pens organization. The reason the Penguins ALWAYS lose when it goes to a shootout...
Our SO skaters get confused because they have no one to pass the puck to.
Chris Kunitz, ladies and gentlemen...

One Can Never Be Too Confid... wait, nevermind
"[The Detroit Lions] made an offer, but I'm going to test the market and see what's out there for me... I'm pretty confident that I'm going to get a better offer."

I'm Chevy Chase, and you're not!
So, Gary's going out for the weekend, and is leaving me the keys to the kingdom. So, over the next few days I'm going to do all the readers a service and will be pushing...
A LIST!
Now, before you all decide to not check your EC bookmark till Monday, I'll going to try and do something that I've failed to do in the past few weeks, and that's be relevant and funny. No more writer's block crap; the Pens might be turning a corner, Bob hoops is looking strong, and the Navy Blue team is heading into their broomball playoffs next week, so it's time to man up and be useful again.
In the mean time, I'll be turning to the trusty fallback of people hurting themselves...

The more I think about it...
the more I think Therrien got screwed. I know the old adage, it's easier to fire the coach than the entire roster, but there are 2 reasons the Pens are under performing this year:
A) Players. This team stinks. The players added are simply not close to what was lost. Also, as of a couple weeks ago, the Pens had close to 200 "Man Games Lost" to injury. Comparatively speaking, the Rangers had 10!!! So, injuries aside, if you agree that the roster is much worse than the one that took the ice against Detroit...then the next reason is...
B) Ray Shero. Sorry, I like Ray, too. But basically, what Shero did by firing Therrien was leave his own noots out to hang. If this team fails to make the make the playoffs after a mid-season change at the helm, Shero MUST take the blame...or at least a good portion of it.
Sorry, but if your HC gets fired, and you go out and lay an egg the next day against THE WORST TEAM IN HOCKEY, motivation is obviously not the problem!!
Also, I think every Pens fan would agree that our PP STINKS!!!!!! We've got 2 of the best players in the league, and we can't score with a man advantage if our life depended on it. So what the f*#k is Mike Yeo still doing with a job if Therrien lost his?
Let's get rid of Gilles Meloche while we're at it.
I'm sorry, but I'm pissed. I'm beginning to think Mike was fired because the Pens brass is prejudice against guys who lack the ability to use a plural.
And I've only seen the Maple Leafs play 3 times this season. How the f*#k does that team ever lose a game?!?!?!?

You Have To Understand Crumpets To Get Cricket
This video has been making the rounds today, and with good reason. The man's name is Adam Voges, and while I'm far from a cricket expert, I've seen more than most Americans, and this is smashing good.

So much for that whole Luca Caputi thing
Blame Therrien.
Oh well. 2009 will not be as long as 2008. We can always watch this...

Help Wanted: Hockey Coach
This is too bad. I liked Mike. Thought he was one of the better coach the Penguin organization has had in long time. It's a shame the player didn't step up for him and win more game.
So long, Mike. The rest of the team should feel shame.

Friday the 13th
Bigger than the Superbowl. More important than a Pens playoff push or Liverpool catching Man Utd. Jason is back...
Forget the punchline that all of the sequels became. While the first 3 are essential viewing, everything after III in 3-D sucked, imho. This one is going back to the roots of the originals, or at least I hope so. This night is EVERYTHING.

Big Ben Wins Superbowl with Broken Ribs
In related news, he also had to face the Arizona Cardinals without his cape, as it was still at the dry cleaners.
What a tool. But hey...keep winning us Superbowls ,Ben, and all your turdiness is forgiven.
(editor's note: the picture above was on page 1 after Googling images for "Ben Roethlisberger Ribs", and I simply thought it was better than any picture of #7 that was shown.)

This isn't Russian, Danny, is it?
I know that some of the other writers here on EC has grown tired of both professional baseball and ESPN, but I haven't. While ESPN is only around in my life because there isn't a viable alternative, I'll never give up on baseball.
ESPN, might already be regretting this last one, though. The WWL had suspended Scott Van Pelt, a.k.a. the only tv/radio personality worth listening to, because of his harsh criticism of MLB commish Bud Selig.
While Selig has become the unfortunate poster boy for everything wrong with the league, I believe he's done more good than harm to the league, and takes on more criticism than he rightly deserves. However, my view is that of a minority.
Van Pelt, who got an increased presence on radio because of his every-man perspective and sense, took Bud to task for his astronomical $18.5 million salary. Apparently, when your bosses are locked in a 8-year, $2.4 billion deal with the man you call overpaid, it's time to stop having an opinion.
I'm not even upset that he got suspended, I'm just disgusted that had Van Pelt replaced Selig's name with that of NHL commish Gary Bettman's, we wouldn't be having this chat.
When a media outlet stops reporting the news fairly, or allowing their commentors to comment freely, you are no longer allowed to consider yourself part of "the media."

Gary Roberts wins Pens another game...
playing for Tampa Bay. Seriously. Chasing the Lightning 3-2 with @ 5 minutes to play, Matt Cooke goaded Gary Roberts by chirping in his ear as they were both at the end of their shifts. What would Gary Roberts do? Slug Cooke and take a stupid roughing penalty, giving the Pens and Petr Sykora the game tying goal on the Power Play. hehe.
Roberts after the game:
"You've got to realize who it is but so should the referee realize who it is," Roberts said. "He's obviously famous for diving, and he never really played with any honor. … He's out there with a visor, chirping it up without any intention of dropping the gloves. I've got no respect for a guy like that."I do agree about the visor part, but VERY dumb on Scary Gary's part. I'll take it :)
Ned Braden, a college graduate, was seen after the game:
"It was a garbage goal. It was a garbage win."hehe.
In other Pens / Lightning news....
Geno Machino has taken over as the team's leader. Sid has passed, again.
And Mark Recchi still blows.

Pittsburgh Holds Parade to Celebrate...
the return of Gary Roberts
Yep. An estimated 350,000 people lined the streets of Pittsburgh to welcome back Gary Roberts, who will be in town tonight with his new team, the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Superbowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers made a brief guest appearance.
Roberts was not on hand to hoist the Lombardi trophy, which he helped the Steelers win on Sunday. While he was not seen on the field, or the box score, Roberts presence in Florida on Sunday was enough to get the job done.

#6
There are copious amounts of "Steeler Bars" around the nation, where fellow Steeler brethren can gather for pops and watch the greatest dynasty the NFL has ever realized. During our stay on Hawai'i's Big Island a couple weeks ago, there were two that we could choose from. By my count, the great state of Arizona has 14 "Steeler Bars."
Are there even any "Cardinal Bars" in Phoenix?
STEELER NATION IN FULL EFFECT......BUUUUUOOOOOOOOOYYYYY!!!
(thanks to fellow Steeler fan Davis for the above image.)
