Happy New Year Fantastic Bastards!!

Ned & Michelle visit the Burgh and get the full treatment. Michelle's Maple Leafs go down to Pens, and Michelle (wearing her Bryan McCabe Toronto jersey) gets heckled by some trashy yensers at Dee's Cafe. All is well when GBV is found on the juke. Primanti sandwiches follow, which makes things right for the night. Except for moi, who loses his sandwich the next morning (if you know what I mean by lose). We've all got stories.

Saturday night, a visit to the Brillo Box on Penn Avenue, where Shit Mayor & Amoeba Knievel play. More Miller Lites are consumed. Shit Mayor hits the stage promptly followed by a befuddled "what the hell is going on up there?" response from Ned. Not quite sure how I felt about Shit Mayor, and I don't know how it would translate to CD or vinyl, but it was definitely interesting to say the least. I would surely check them out again. LET'S GET ORGANIZED! Ned is in love, and promptly signed up for the Shit Mayor fan club.

Check out Shit Mayor here on myspace.

Also appears that DJ Gregg Gillis from Girl Talk, who I admit to have never heard of, is pumping up Shit Mayor over at Pitchfork's 'Guest List.'

Greg describes Shit Mayor as a "wonderful train wreck." I guess that's a good description. Definitely see these guys live if you get the chance.

Tommy Amoeba and his new band hit the stage next. What follows is one of the most amazing spectacles I've ever seen on stage. And I forget my camera like a dumbass. Sorry, no photos folks, but here's an oldie fav of mine from Amoeba Knievel that got played live:

Amoeba Knievel - Indigo Sandwich

Go over to Tommy's myspace page to hear the new one "Cowboy Ed and His Caterpillar." (I believe that's the name of this tune, if it's not I really suck). And it looks like Tommy's got a couple more shows lined up here in the Burgh:

  • Friday, January 9th at the Bloomfield Bridge Tavern
  • Saturday, February 3rd at the 31st Street Pub
I highly recommend checking them out. Bring your happy face.

Sunday: beers, booze, food, football, futbol, GBV, rawk. All day, all night. Oh...and some fresh tattoes to remember the occasion. Best NYE ever. Then we got drunk and dialed.

No animals were harmed (except for Stiffler's new toy that he ripped to shreds). Just one beer soaked tee-shirt and one soar back courtesy of a botched Bob leg-kick. After 5:00am, the memory gets a little fuzzy, but I seem to recall some conversation about how "Little Guitars" was the 2nd best song ever after "Game of Pricks."

Yo dude..

I was just on your blog and saw that you mentioned Gregg Gillis.. I went to highschool and ran track with him. He had a two person "band" for lack of a better term in those days called "The Joysticks"..

They were famous for a stunt they pulled off at a talent show which also helped in making it the LAST talent show ever (or at least for a few years) at Chartiers Valley. They stood on stage, looked at the audience and looped a very loud annoying sound for almost 10 minutes with nothing else.. maintenance had to cut the power to the auditorium to shut them down.

The other part of the show featured a student section mosh-pit in the seats, pretty intense, during a setlist by the band "Synergy" (which I actually was the lead singer for 2 weeks.. hahaha)

The Joysticks played a lot of back yards and actually grew a pretty big fan base. They always held the "anti-prom" for all the losers who didn't go to the dance. Their sets involved A LOT of theatrics and as much pyrotechnics as township law would allow.

Anyway.. figured I'd mention that.. he actually might remember me but I haven't talked to him in years.

Later dude,
Brian
